Heli-Hunting —where the flight is as thrilling as the pursuit

Journeys End Station

Heli-hunting—where the adventure begins in the sky. Depart from Auckland and soar over the Coromandel coastline, across the vast Waikato farmland, and above the rugged Kaimai and Raukumara Ranges before descending into Gisborne.

Your destination: Journey’s End Station, equidistant between Gisborne and Opotiki in the thriving rural community of Matawai, Journeys End offers an unparalleled combination of farming, hunting and fishing. An exclusive slice of backcountry paradise where trophy game roam free and the terrain remains untouched.

Journeys End Station sits on 1438 hectares, subdivided into 66 paddocks including approximately 100ha of deer fencing.

Upon landing, your expert pilot will stay with you throughout the experience, serving as both guide and ground support. Spend the day tracking red deer, fallow, sika, or wild boar across sweeping valleys and native bush, guided by someone who knows the land like the back of their hand. Whether you’re a seasoned hunter or here for the first time, they’ll ensure you get the most from the pursuit.

As evening settles in, retreat to the rustic station hut for a hearty meal, a roaring fire, and stories under the stars. After a night immersed in true backcountry comfort, you’ll wake early for one final morning hunt before lifting off again—flying back over the same epic landscapes with unforgettable memories and, if you're lucky, a trophy to match.
